Dr. Mari Umpierre is the Director of Mount Sinai Calm within the Mount Sinai Health System’s employee wellness program. Her focus is on behavioral health and research as she develops partnerships across the Health System to design and implement programs and strategies that promote emotional wellness and stress reduction for faculty, staff, students and their families. She has a deep interest in health and mental health literacy, and she has investigated issues related to language, cultural challenges, and health communication. Her clinical work and research interests include cross-cultural issues in mental health and access to care for minorities.

Dr. Umpierre is a clinical social worker and psychotherapist, with more than 20 years of direct practice experience, with a PhD in Clinical Social Work from New York University, as well as a dual degree in Social Work and Dance Movement Therapy from Hunter College. She works closely with psychiatrists and primary care providers to deliver high quality care to individuals, couples and families, and is particularly interested in the intersection of health and mental health issues.

In addition to doctoral level training in clinical social work, She has institute training in family therapy and in psychoanalysis. Furthermore she supervises and teaches master’s level clinicians and is actively engaged in mental health services research.

She works effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, provides treatment in English and Spanish, and is receptive to telephone and skype sessions in order to maintain the continuity of the treatment process.
