On January 17 and 18, Modesto “Flako” Jimenez will present ¡Harken! as part of Under the Radar’s annual Under Construction program at Onassis ONX’s new TriBeCa space. Using generative AI, Jimenez invites audiences to help repair the fragmented historical narratives surrounding Juan Rodriguez, a mixed-race Atlantic Creole who arrived from Santo Domingo in 1613 as a fur trader for the Dutch. Produced by MAX (Media Art Xploration),¡Oye! Group, and Onassis ONX, ¡Harken! will be presented in tandem with MAX’s salon series Collaboration as Resistance. This conversation will bring together collaborators and audiences for a salon-style discussion about the work, its creative team, and the role of artificial intelligence.
