Emma Sutherland

Emma Sutherland is a Los Angeles–based dance artist originally from Frisco, Texas. She trained at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, performing works by choreographers including Aszure Barton, Lar Lubovitch, Loni Landon, and Annabelle Lopez Ochoa. In 2019, she was named a YoungArts Winner in Modern Dance and a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts.

Emma earned her BFA from the University of Southern California’s Glorya Kaufman School of Dance, with a minor in Cinematic Arts, where she performed works by Merce Cunningham, Jiří Kylián, Ohad Naharin, Justin Peck, and William Forsythe among others. Since graduating, she has worked with a diverse range of artists and companies including Micaela Taylor’s TL Collective, Peter Chu’s chuthis., and JA Collective, performing at venues and festivals internationally. Most recently, she completed a world tour with the band Half•Alive, with choreography by JA Collective.
