As a lighting designer, Kate has worked extensively in collaboration with experimental artists including, to name a few, Peter Mills Weiss and Julia Mounsey, Taylor Mac and Matt Rey, Target Margin Theater, Mabou Mines, Diana Oh, Knud Adams, Richard Maxwell/The New York City Players, Object Collection, and The Wooster Group. She has toured the world lighting Jazz visionary Esperanza Spalding and the members of off-brand gods dance as they work tirelessly to reintroduce improvised movement into the institutional lineage of Jazz.
As a New Media artist Kate explores emerging technology’s unique potential to communicate somatic biography. As a Project Number One resident artist at New York City’s Soho Rep, she wrote, designed, and developed the original VR work Girl Mode. Girl Mode has since been shown at Soho Rep, The Brick Theater, ASU’s Mix Center, and The Fabric Arts Workshop.
As a deviser of theater, Kate works as a dramaturg, designer, technologist, and occasional co-director. With Peter Mills Weiss and Julia Mounsey, she was integral to the creation of a stripped down “somehow literary” set of works that have premiered in both the US and Europe.
