Kronos Quartet is a pioneering American string quartet founded in 1973 by violinist David Harrington. Known for redefining what a string quartet can be, they’ve commissioned and premiered hundreds of new works, collaborating with composers and artists from around the world. Their repertoire spans classical, contemporary, avant-garde, world music, jazz, and even rock, making them one of the most adventurous ensembles of the past fifty years. Through projects like their long-running Kronos Fifty for the Future, they’ve also played a major role in expanding educational resources for young musicians.
