Syntax of Undoing, choreographed and directed by Raymond Pinto, is presented in collaboration with creative technologist Team Rolfes and musician Matthew Jamal. The performance treats Shakespeare’s The Tempest as a conceptual field for open interpretation. It moves through orders of multiplicity and metamorphosis, using the play as a catalyst to examine relations of force, perception, and transformation in the live moment.
Team Rolfes inhabit the fluid territory between Ariel and Caliban and all that breathes between them. Matthew Jamal channels the emotional arc associated with Miranda and Ferdinand as states of encounter, awakening, desire, and consequence. Raymond Pinto appears as Prospero and as the central force through which the event takes shape, guiding its unfolding through presence and intention rather than command.
Through corporeal action and virtual world making using motion capture and projections, the performance traverses perceptual and digital registers and evokes a sense of transmogrification as bodies, images, and environments continuously shift. The work invites the audience into a live field where roles are porous, meaning is unstable, and reality becomes an evolving event.
